The car becomes digital
Auto Shanghai 2019 looks ahead to the future of drivingMunich, 11 October 2018 – The digital car and alternative drive systems are in the focus of Auto Shanghai which takes place from 18 to 25 April 2019. For eight days the world's largest motor show in the Chinese economic metropolis will again attract the international automotive world. All renowned manufacturers and suppliers as well as numerous start-ups will show their innovations in the 13 halls of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Shanghai. The trade fair's main issues will be electromobility, autonomous driving and connected cars.
"There's still tremendous interest in the Chinese automotive market. China intends to become one of the leading markets for electromobility and autonomous driving. Accordingly, there's great demand for corresponding technologies", says Peter Bergleiter, Managing Director of IMAG GmbH which has been the European co-organizer of Auto Shanghai since 2003. In 2017 more than a million visitors came to the trade fair, more than 1,000 exhibitors from the manufacturing and supply sectors occupied 360,000 square meters of exhibition space. Conferences, seminars and technical presentations accompany the trade fair and provide the visitors with a further platform for networking.
Innovative, fresh ideas for cars often come from young companies. To make it easier for those newcomers to attend the world's largest motor show and to gain a foothold in the Asian market, IMAG offers extra start-up packages with special conditions. In a specific new mobility area companies will present their latest technologies from the fields of e-mobility, autonomous driving and intermodal transportation. Moreover, there will be several national pavilions from European countries at Auto Shanghai 2019.
The theme of Auto Shanghai will be all about the mobility of the future. To improve the air quality in China's megacities despite the increasing number of car registrations, electric and hybrid cars play a huge role and are massively subsidized by the government. Thus, China has superseded the USA as the world's largest market for new energy vehicles. Experts believe that sales of vehicles with alternative drive systems will surpass the 2 million mark by 2020. Also, regarding autonomous driving China pushes research and development to become one of the leading markets for self-driving cars.
